Back Acne Treatment

When we speak of back acne treatment we are also referring to treatment of acne that could appear on the chest, upper arms and buttocks as well.

Most people think of acne on the face only, however many acne sufferers also get back acne or acne in other areas of the body.
The reason the face, back, upper arms and sometimes buttocks are areas prone to acne is the concentration of sweat glands in those places. There are more sweat glands per square inch there than other parts of the body. It is as simple as that. The sebum produced in the sweat glands blocks the pores, inflammation and infection sets in and you have acne... or back acne.

At the end of this page I have provided a number tips for back acne treatment but it is very important to understand that these are not really back acne treatments. In fact you can search all over the place and find these tips everywhere. The problem is they are presented as back acne treatments or back acne cures... and it is simply not true.
At best they could be described as back acne relief routines or back acne care tips but they are not back acne treatments.

I strongly believe that to describe something as a "treatment" it should in some way be addressing the CAUSE of the problem and not the symptoms of that problem.

Any back acne treatment program should be exactly the same as any ordinary acne treatment program because they are one and the same thing... just in different locations.

It is important to understand at the CAUSE level why the acne appears in the first place. The answer to this problem will be the answer to your back acne problem.
So let's first clear up some basic information.

1. Your acne is YOUR acne, it is unique to you. Blindly applying all sorts of "one size fits all" solutions that others have used will rarely solve the problem.

2. Any back acne treatment program that claims to be effective by addressing the acne itself as the skin level can only ever reduce the discomfort. It can never eliminate the cause because the cause is not the skin.
Poor diet leading to a hormonal imbalance leading to blocked, infected pores leading to acne.

An existing hormonal imbalance leading to poor digestion leading to vitamin deficiencies  leading to acne.

Stress leading to hormone imbalances leading to blocked, infected pores leading to acne.

Specific food intolerances or the inability to correctly digest and assimilate certain food leading either directly to hormonal imbalance or to vitamin deficiencies ending in acne.
Now we come to the fun part and the real reason why successful back acne treatment can be so difficult.

We all know that acne is basically the sweat glands over producing sebum, that results in pores getting blocked, then we move to infection and then we have acne right?

The question is why do those glands do that? What is the root cause of that cycle beginning?
Here are some general tips for back acne treatment and care.

Use only soaps, washes or shower gels that have been approved by dermatologists to wash your back or any affected area. You can see some acne skin care products here.

Try to work out some way of being able to thoroughly clean your back especially after exercise or sweating. Some kind of long handled cloth or brush but be very certain to make sure that is is soft and not abrasive to the skin.

Avoid wearing tight clothes or clothes that are not made of natural fibers. This helps to prevent furhter irritation to the skin and natural fibers "breathe" better to allow sweat ot evaporate.
Never squeeze the individual pimples or cysts regardless of the strange sense of satisfaction it provides!

This tends to do more damage to the skin and increase the chances of scarring. Also it promotes further infection by spreading the bacteria within the cyst on to the adjoining areas and your fingers.

You can use any number of easily available products such as ones containing aloe vera or tea tree oil that have a soothing or cooling effect on the area. Just don't believe the hype and expect these products to actually "treat" the back acne. They provide relief from discomfort, that's all.
Back acne treatment is often referred to in many books and online resources as being different to facial acne.

The truth is there is no difference to back acne or back acne treatment. The only difference is the location of the acne outbreak itself.
First let's eliminate teenage acne and acne during pregnancy. These are clearly hormonal because of the changes the body is going through and to some degree you may need to just "ride it out" using the tips below. Acne during menopause falls into this category as does acne that only appears during certain times of a woman's menstrual cycle.

All other back acne will fall under a wide range of combinations of the hormone/stress/diet triad.

Here are some examples of what I mean:
Get some regular exercise. It is a great stress reliever, promotes more efficient body function and if you do it outdoors results in your body manufacturing more vitamin D which is vital for healthy skin.

Maintain a reasonably healthy diet and don't go overboard on oily food, sugar, coffee, alcohol, white flour... you know, the usual suspects. They may not directly cause acne but they are certainly willing to get in there and help it along!

Drink lots of water and get a good night's sleep every night.

There are three possible sources of back acne outbreaks and they are:

Hormones
Stress
Diet
The best back acne treatment program must take into consideration not only all those factors but the relationship that exists between those factors and how they affect YOU!
